Installing a wood stove into a masonry chimney

As with all installations, before installing your wood stove you must first be sure that your masonry chimney is structurally safe. Using a flashlight inspect the interior of the chimney to be sure there are no obstructions.

Following local codes for clearances to combustible surfaces you must figure out where your stove is going to permanently sit. Non-combustible flooring must be used under your stove. This flooring must extend 12" past the sides and 18" in front of any loading doors. Dry fit your stove pipes where they will be going through the thimble into the masonry chimney.

Measure from the thimble area where the pipe is going into the wall to the top of the chimney. This measurement will tell you how long the liner must be.

Install the body of the tee onto the flexible stainless steel liner by tightening down the clamps. Your liner is now ready to be installed from the top of the chimney. Insert the liner into the chimney until you have the hole in the tee lined up with the thimble area. From the inside of the home you will now insert the snout of the tee into the thimble and get the loop of the clamp around the tee body and tighten it with a screw driver.Further instructions on installing the tee

Attach the stove pipes from the stove to the stainless steel tee. With all pipes secure your bottom termination is complete.

You will want to finish off the hole where the tee comes through the wall. This can be done with refractory cement.

Your wood stove is now vented into your stainless steel chimney liner. Be sure to maintain your liner according to the manufacturers guidelines.
